Dos and Don'ts for Panels

Dos and Don’ts for Panels

Ø  Do not connect power to the panel without ensuring proper earthing is in place.

Ø  Do not try to open power panel while the power supply is ON>

Ø  Do not keep the panel open while it is ON. This will adversely effect the cooling and humidity of the panel. And dust will enter to the panel.

Ø  Do not replace any type of component or disturb the setting of the protection without the presence of a qualified person.

Ø  Do not use wires instead of fuse links with the same rating & type of fuse only.

Ø  Do not use any blown fuse without establishing the reason and rectify the fault.

Ø  Do not replace MPCB’s (Motor Protection Circuit Breakers) without establishing the reason for its frequent tripping & rectify the fault.

Ø  Do not keep any explosive & Conductive liquid near the panel.

Ø  Do not pull the resistance wires of the capacitor conductors for the purpose of checking. The wires are brittle & likely to get damaged.

Ø  Do not run the panel without the conductor/MPCB cover or ACB’s arc chute. The striking glare may damage your eyes.

Ø  Do not touch the panel without wearing proper Safety shoes. Even 100 mA current is fatal to the human body, so why take chance.

Ø  Do not bypass any inter locks without the written approval of the concerned people.

Ø  Do not operate panel without operation knowledge & authority. This can prove to be a very dangerous to both the machine & the individual’s life.

Ø  Do not use both the hands for holding live wires of circuit. Check voltage with reference to natural, rather than phase-to-phase.

Ø  Do not try to rotate stalled motor manually, while the power is ON. The motor may start any time cut your fingers.

Ø  Do not leave the power connected when the panel is under test, and you move out for some reason, as other may not be aware of this,

Ø   Do not use cut wires with tapes or papers. Change the wire. Tapes\papers do not guarantee100% insulation.

Ø  Do not strip wire with teeth. This is dangerous practice.

Ø  Do not put any tools\items near the panel that may obstruct the exit way.

Ø  Do not bypass SAFTEY RULES. Fire extinguisher for electrical fire and electrical shock treatment chart are a must in each control room.

Ø  Do not run the panel without proper indication lights. Replace blown bulbs immediately.

Ø   Do not leave any tools on the components or inside the panel.

Ø  Do not keep any cable gland left open without inserting cable in it.Dust and moisture can enter from the open holes and become conductive, which can create a short circuit or damage the component.
